Our First Week

It's been an exciting first week. I've enjoyed getting to know my students and the staff at my school. There have been quite a few successes in our first week that I would like to celebrate.

Moving to French Instruction
I was concerned that this would be a difficult transition especially as there were students who were nervous and hesitant about learning French at first. I've found that the class has adapted very well. I am very grateful to their pre-intensive French teacher who obviously taught them very well. I can tell that her hard work has paid off and made my job easier.

La lecture en silence
We have moved as a class from being able to sustain silent reading for six minutes to sixteen minutes. The students are able to pick out words and phrases that they know from their books and tell each other the stories of the books they are reading. I see genuine engagement in almost all of my students during silent reading time. There are a couple who are still struggling but I am confident that this will come with time and practice.

Our Blog
The students are so excited about the comments we get from people and looking at our cluster map to see where in the world people are visiting from. Today was especially exciting as we had visits from Hawaii and New Zealand! As a teacher, having the students be this excited about their work is very inspiring. I am looking forward to being able to post more of their work as well as videos and pictures soon. One thing I would like to try this week is making a video of a student reading the book we are finishing up this week.

Exciting Events
We had a musician from Mississippi visit our school today. Her name was Eden Brent and she sang the boogie-woogie style blues. She was an excellent performer and our class was very enthusiastic about her music. One of our students got up to introduce her and thank her. He did an amazing job.

And we're going swimming tomorrow! I know the students are excited about that. I hope they all remember their swim equipment!

Have a good week everyone.
